The combination of pears and blue cheese isn't certainly the culinary novelty, but what if the pear is wrapped with strips of puff pastry and baked in the oven?. Will you agree with me that this is a very original addition to a fairly popular salad?. Unfortunately, It wasn't my idea, but I've seen it on one of the popular Spanish blog La Receta de la Felicidad, whose author Sandra Mangas has recently released a book Las recetas de la felicidad - I haven't seen it yet, but taking into account the delicious recipes and beautiful photos from her blog, I'll probably also like the book:). Apart from the pear in puff pastry, I've added to the salad some blue cheese, walnuts and lettuce mix. Finally I've sprinkled it with dressing made of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and honey.
Ingredients (serves 1):
1 pear
2-3 slices of blue cheese
3 walnuts
a handful of lettuce mix
small sheet of puff pastry cut into 1 cm strips
beaten egg, for brushing the pear before baking
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon honey
pinch of sea salt
Method:
Peel the pear and cut off its bottom to get a stable base. Then wrap the puff pastry strips around the outside of the pear, starting from the top. Brush it with lightly beaten egg. Place the pear on a baking tray and bake for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown, in the oven preheated to 200ºC.
In the meantime, prepare the dressing by mixing the olive oil with balsamic vinegar, honey and a pinch of sea salt.
Place the baked pear on a plate. Add washed and dried lettuce mix, pieces of blue cheese and walnuts. Sprinkle with the dressing.
Enjoy !!!
